Tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson created a unique, pointillistic style that set him apart from the dominant influences of John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins in the '60s and, by the '90s, he became a towering presence in his own right. A sensitive and probing improviser, Henderson's artistry helped define today's modern jazz era.

The State of The Tenor; Lush Life; (musings for Miles).

De todos estes merecem especial destaque The State of The Tenor

Sobre o primeiro, The State of The Tenor, gravado ao vivo no clube Village Vanguard, em Nova Iorque, no ano de 1985, com Henderson suportado por Ron Carter e Al Foster, afirma Wynton Marsalis, citado por Stanley Crouch nas liner notes deste registo:

"Joe Henderson and Ron and Al are giving musicians notice and all concerned listeners, notice too. They are letting you know how great this music is and how much is behind it. Nobody plays like Joe, how he uses harmony and how free he is to play anything that comes into his head if it makes musical sense. When you listen to this band you definitely know how great jazz is. Joe is not jiving. He is giving notice".

É para ouvir... especialmente "Beatrice".
